Scooters are motorcycles characterized by their step through frame and having a platform for the operator’s feet. Originating in 1914, scooters did not becoming truly popular until after World War II. After the war, two of the most famous and iconic models caught on across Europe, the Vespa and Lambretta.
Part of the reason these models, and most subsequent scooters, became so popular is because they could offer low powered transportation at a low price, and the licensing requirements were easier and cheaper to get than most other vehicles. In addition, insurance is also typically very affordable.
